Property Tax FAQs

For any question related to the payment of your tax bill, please click here for additional information. The Assessor’s Office does not issue your tax bill and will be unable to answer tax bill questions.

For any concerns that you have about the tax rate, please direct those concerns towards the governing body of the four taxing jurisdictions, which include the City of Oshkosh, Winnebago County, Oshkosh Area School District, and Fox Valley Technical College. The tax rate is a combination of tax rates from the four taxing jurisdictions and is based upon their budgets for the upcoming year. The Assessor’s Office does not set the tax rate and will be unable to answer tax rate questions.

Increases to the tax levy or an approved voting referendum will impact the tax rate, which means an increase in your property tax can be caused by factors other than your property’s assessed value. There are additional factors, such as special assessments or delinquent taxes or utility bills that can result in an increase in your property tax.

The Tax Rate (aka Mill Rate) = The Tax Levy / Total Assessed Values in the City of Oshkosh

Property Tax = Your Property’s Assessed Value x Tax Rate.
