There are many sustainable actions citizens of Oshkosh can take to contribute to improved environmental quality. The links below give suggestions of actions and organizations (local and state) which address the principal areas of sustainability.

Pollinator Friendly Habitats

The City of Oshkosh is no longer participating in Now Mow May. Instead, the City and the Sustainability Advisory Board encourage residents to explore other pollinator-friendly landscaping practices that provide longer-lasting habitat benefits beyond simply delaying mowing.

  • Reminder: Please note that Chapter 17 of the Municipal Code prohibits grasses, weeds, brush, and other rank or offensive vegetation from exceeding eight (8) inches in height.
  • Residents are also reminded not to blow grass clippings into the street. Grass and leaves can be carried by rainwater into the City’s stormwater system. Because many stormwater facilities discharge directly into local lakes and rivers without pretreatment, these materials can add excess nutrients that can contribute to algal blooms.
