Cemetery Confessions
Join your “Tour Ghost” Matilda Spikes, the Undertaker’s wife, as she takes you on a journey from the morgue to the grave. Discover real stories, urban legends, and the ghosts of Oshkosh as Matilda tells the cemetery confessions! Advanced tickets are required.
Graphic Stories of Death
Join us as we explore the dangerous conditions that past Oshkosh citizens experienced through the graphic descriptions of their deaths found in 19th-century newspaper stories. You must be age 16, or older and advanced tickets are required.

Riverside Cemetery is one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in Oshkosh. Riverside Cemetery was established in 1850. Additional property was purchased 1887 and 1914 to comprise a total of 120 acres of land, which is the cemetery as we know it today.
Our dedicated arborist and grounds keepers maintain the landscape of this beautiful cemetery to perfection year round.
Riverside Cemetery is rich in historical significance to the Oshkosh community. On June 6, 2003, Riverside Cemetery had the honor of being placed on the National Register of Historic Places. An honor this special place truly deserves.
The chapel at the main entrance to the cemetery was built in 1920-1921 by Oshkosh architect Julius Dreger. The chapel is designed in the classic Romanesque Revival style popular in the 1920’s. In the 1900’s church services were celebrated in this chapel daily. The cemetery and chapel was serviced by a trolley, which stopped outside the chapel doors.
The interior of the chapel holds two original oil painting by local artist Gustav Behncke, These exquisite works of art were donated to the cemetery by Mr. Behncke: the Resurrection in 1930 and the Crucifixion in 1942
Riverside Cemetery is proud of our dedication to Veterans. The "Grand Army of the Republic", section, holds the graves of many veterans who fought in the Civil War. A monument was erected to commemorate the fallen soldiers in 1894. This monument still graces the cemetery today in tribute.
In 1922 land was donated north of the Cemetery for use for burials for the Spanish American War, World War I and World War II Veterans. Today these lands to the north of the cemetery hold burials for every war and branch of service since the Civil War. The striking white upright markers are a reminder to all of us of “those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Riverside Cemetery burial lots are available for purchase in most every section of the cemetery . Available lots can be viewed by calling our office Monday-Friday 8 AM - 1 PM, for an appointment. All lots in the cemetery have the same pricing schedule, with exception of Veteran and Infant sections.
