Court Procedures
The City Attorney’s Office handles ordinance violation prosecution. This includes non-criminal traffic tickets and forfeitures issued by the City of Oshkosh Police Department, and citations written by the Inspection Services Division, Planning Services Division and Fire Department. Your specific court date will be written on your citation, but City citations are generally scheduled for Wednesday mornings with the Winnebago County Court Commissioner.
If the City has issued you a citation, the first thing you need to do is enter a plea. You may enter your plea in writing or at your initial court appearance noted on your citation. If you plead “guilty” or “no contest” the Court Commissioner will likely resolve the case and determine the outcome at your initial court appearance. If you plead “not guilty,” you will receive a pre-trial hearing date and a prosecutor from our office will be assigned to handle your case. Our office does not have any reports or case files, and will not be able to discuss your case, before a “not guilty” plea is entered.
If you have already pled “not guilty” and wish to discuss your case with the City prosecutor, you may contact our office at 920-236-5115.
