Bus Fares Information
(Fare changes effective August 1, 2024. Implementation of electronic fare collection system (WisGo.UMO) Coming Soon.)
Important Rules
- Every time you board the bus, you must pay the cash fare, utilize the WisGO/UMO fare system (app or card) or present the driver with a pass (valid until 12/31/2024), token (valid until 12/31/2024) or transfer (issued through 12/31/2024).
- You must have exact change when paying the cash fare. Unfortunately, GO Transit drivers do not carry change. Passengers must deposit their own cash into the farebox. Passengers who do not have exact fare may deposit cash in excess of the proper fare, and the driver, when witnessing this, will issue a receipt that can be presented at the Transit Office for a refund.
- Monthly passes are good for unlimited rides on routes within the city during the calendar month or months printed on the front of the pass. They are available for purchase two weeks before the start of each month. (expires 12/31/2024, valid until 12/31/2024)
- Monthly pass users must clearly print their name on the pass. (expires 12/31/2024, valid until 12/31/2024)
- Monthly passes are valid for only one user (non-transferrable) (expires 12/31/2024, valid until 12/31/2024). Violation of this rule results in pass confiscation.
- Unlike monthly passes, punch passes can be used by multiple riders (expires 12/31/2024, valid until 12/31/2024).
How do I pay my fare?
- You are now able to purchase transit fare through the Token Transit app. Click here to download.
- All fare types are sold at GO Transit's Office at 926 Dempsey Trail. WisGo/UMO coming soon.
Transfers
(Only applicable to bus service) Transfer will not be issued after December 31, 2024.
What is a transfer?
A transfer is a receipt issued to a passenger by the bus driver after a fare is paid. A transfer is needed when you cannot get to your final destination on the first bus you board and need to transfer to a second bus to access another route. Transfers are free, but must be used within 60 minutes. Any passenger may ask for a transfer when boarding the bus after the fare is paid. You should also tell the driver which bus route you will be transferring to.
Where can I transfer?
Transfers are accepted at multiple bus stops and transfer points throughout the system. Common timed transfer points include the Downtown Transit Center, West Transfer Point, Walmart, and Mallard Ave/Grove St.
Transfer will not be issued after 12/31/2024
Implementation of the Wis/GO/UMO fare collection system will eliminate the need for transfers. Riders utilizing the WisGO/UMO system will not be charged a fare within 90 minutes of paying a previous fare. Additionally, the system will not charge a rider more than $4 perday (Fare capping at 2 one-way fares).
Notes:
- GO Transit will honor late transfers when normal service is interrupted.
