The City of Oshkosh Minimum Housing Code was created to prevent the deterioration of residential neighborhoods and to establish minimum housing standards for residents. When problems arise we are here to help tenants resolve violations of the Municipal Code. Our office does not charge tenants when inspections are requested but we do ask that you make a concerted effort to satisfy the issues with the landlord prior to requesting an inspection with our office. It is recommended that your repair requests are followed up in writing to the landlord. Records should be kept including phone conversations and written agreements to repair corrections with the dates/times. If the landlord fails to make the corrections please contact our office to set up an inspection.

The City of Oshkosh has a Minimum Housing Code in effect to prevent the deterioration of residential units and neighborhoods and to insure a minimum level of housing standards for the residents of the City. There are no fees charged to tenants when requesting inspections of your rental dwelling when problems arise. We do ask however that you make a concerted effort to satisfy your complaint with the landlord prior to requesting an inspection with our office. It is a good practice to follow up all of your repair requests to your landlord in writing. Records should be kept including phone conversations and written promises to repair corrections with dates and times. Rooming Houses
City ordinance section 16-40C prohibits more than four unrelated persons to occupy a single living unit no matter how many bedrooms are available unless the dwelling is a licensed rooming house. If a situation occurs where more than four individuals reside in a single living unit, the additional people will be required to vacate. The owner can also be fined for running a rooming house without a license.
Parking
Parking shortages in the University area are wide spread, resulting in students parking in non-designated areas such as lawns and unmarked areas of paved parking lots (areas not painted as parking stalls). Parking in non-designated areas is prohibited in the City of Oshkosh and is subject to Correction Notices (which a service fee may be added) as well as Municipal Citations. Citations are issued in the amount of $232.00 per day of violation. All vehicles parked in the designated parking areas are also required to display current registration (stickers) on the license plates. Violations of this provision of the Municipal Code are also subject to the penalties previously mentioned.
All renters are encouraged to verify parking availability prior to entering a lease agreement. Property owners are not authorized to let you or tell you to park in non-designated areas.
