Carbon Monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless, poisonous gas created when any fuel is burned.
Sources
Sources of CO in the average household include: Gas/Oil burning furnaces, Gas water heaters, Gas ranges and ovens, Gas dryers, Fireplaces, Charcoal or gas grills, and Vehicles (including lawnmowers and snow blowers).
Symptoms
Symptoms of CO poisoning are flu-like including: headache, dizziness, nausea, sleepiness, and confusion. Prolonged or high-level exposure can lead to unconsciousness and even death.

CO Detectors

Prevent CO from becoming a problem by:
- Having your heating/cooling systems checked every year
- Keeping your chimney well maintained
- Following all directions on all appliances
- Starting yard equipment outdoors

- ...use a charcoal or gas grill indoors (including inside a garage).
- ...use a gas range or oven for heating.
- ...leave any vehicle running in a garage.
