PFAS Project

PFAS stands for per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances. They are groups of man-made chemicals used in various industrial and consumer products due to their unique properties, such as being resistant to heat, water, and oil.

Some studies have linked prolonged PFAS exposure to health issues such as cancer, thyroid and liver damage and immune system failure. As a result, the state and federal governments have put regulations in place to ensure safe levels in water sources.

The Oshkosh Department of Public Works follows those PFAS health guidelines for regular water testing.
