E'✓ APPROVED - 16 - xESOiznzoN k 13 To: Wil2iam Frueh, City Manager From: Gerald Konrad, Director of Public Works Date: September 9, 1983 „ /// Subject: ELECTROMAGNETIC FLOWMETERS The sewage treatment plant has eight 3 electromagnetic flowmeters which operate in the air flotation thickeners. In 1981 the four meters operating on the sludge side of the thickeners failed, and were replaced. Now the four meters ott the charged water side are failing. One is completely inoperable beyond repair, and the other three have been temporarily repaired with an expected life of only six months. We would like to standardize all eight meters and, therefore, requested a quote from Jensen Reynolds, 1ow bidder in 1981. To replace one meter at this time would cost $4475; if a11 four were replaced the price per meter would be $4245 each, or a total of $16,980. This would be a savings of $920 over replacing the meters one at a time. In 1981 the 1ow bid for a 3" meter was $3712.75 each, and the second bid was $4790 each, As you can see, the present quote is sti11 below the 1981 second bid, and approximately 14% higher than 1981 low bid. With the years 1981 and 1982 having a fairly high inflation rate, I feel the 14% increase is justifiable. I would recommend that we suspend bidding procedures and purchase the four meters as quoted in the attached quote. Because the one meter is now inoperable, we will have to do something fairly soon. c.c.: Tom Konrad, Supt. of Utilities Enc. - 16a - JENSEN REYNOLDS 4919 W.
