This can cause unsafe icing issues on the sidewalk or standing water in the backyard if the hose runs regularly. A way to solve the problem if this occurs at your property is to sign up for the Mini-Storm Sewer Program. Information outlining the details of the program can be found in the Mini-Storm Sewer Program Informational Sheet. If you are a residential property owner, and would like have a storm sewer lateral installed at your property, please complete and return the Mini-Storm Sewer Program Informational Sheet to the Engineering Division of the City of Oshkosh Department of Public Works. The cost assessed to the property for installing a storm lateral is outlined in the Policy for Special Assessments on file with the Department of Public Works. Under the ground surface, there is a series of storm sewer piping that will drain storm water away from your property. A 6” lateral is installed from the storm sewer in the road to your property for you to connect to directly, or you can have this storm lateral inlet installed. If you have a storm lateral inlet installed, this open grate will be visible in the grassed area on your property behind the sidewalk. You can direct your sump pump hose and any downspouts to this drain. This will help prevent water from going onto the sidewalk and icing over during the winter months.
