HomeMy WebLinkAboutSMOKE_ALARMS_FOR_EVERYONE PROJECT SAFE SMOKE ALARMS FOR EVERYONE All of our fire engines are equipped with a Smoke Detector Check Program Kit (detectors, batteries, etc.). Once our crews have completed emergency operations at a scene they will initiate a voluntary check of smoke detectors in the residence (only if the officer deems it appropriate to do so). If batteries are missing or non-functioning they will be replaced free of charge. Also if there are not enough detectors located in the residence (Wisconsin law requires one on each level of the home) our firefighters will install one—again free of charge. Types of incidents in which these checks will be considered appropriate: ► Minor fire incidents (occupants are allowed to continue to occupy the residence). ► Gas leaks/odors. ► False alarms. ► Invalid assist calls. ► Carbon Monoxide calls not involving serious illness. ► Ambulance calls in which the patient is not transported to the hospital. Types of incidents in which this check will NOT be considered appropriate: ► Ambulance calls involving death or serious injury. ► Incidents that are potential crime scenes. Also, in the event of a large residential fire, fire crews will canvas the surrounding neighborhood offering this service. As always, this service will continued to be offered on an appointment basis, by calling the Prevention Division at 236-5249.
