Mr. Hoffman requested Mr. Larson present the Director's report.
Mr. Larson began by thanking Mr. Hoffman for his service to the Board as President and noted he
has done an excellent job. Next, Mr. Larson reviewed the Capital Improvement Project requests
(CIP)for 2020-2024.The Board packet included a table summarizing the Museum's capital requests
and explained that most of the projects are from last year's submissions, with one addition:elevator
modernization. Museum 2020-2024 requests will be reviewed by Mr. Rohloff and Ms. Larson on
June 7.
Mr. Larson reported the Clan figures will arrive at the Museum Tuesday,May 14. The figures will
be kept on third floor until the exhibition is ready. This timing is because Ray Reser, the Director
of the Stevens Point Museum of Natural History, is retiring on June 1. Museum staff is currently

working on the summer exhibition, Cemetery Tales, and will not be able to work on the Menominee
Clans Story exhibition for several weeks. An opening date in early autumn is expected.
Regarding 2019 capital improvements,Mr.Larson reported the City/Museum is currently soliciting
bids for limited excavation around the Museum foundation, including: 1) the southeast corner of
the Sawyer home; 2) where the Steiger Wing and Sawyer home meet on the northwest corner of
the structure; and the area of the archives (west side) where we have water infiltration during
heavy rain. These exploratory excavations will enable engineers to determine the extent of the
problems and how to best develop specifications for repair. Money is included in the 2019 capital
improvement budget for specifications and bidding documents. The actual repair of the foundation
is scheduled for 2020. Due to the weather, this work is about one month behind schedule.
In another capital improvement project, for masonry repairs, the specifications and bidding
documents are almost finished. This work is being coordinated with the new roof on the Carriage
House because the repair of the chimneys must be completed before the new roof is installed. The
roofing specifications and materials (i.e., artificial slate) are being reviewed by the Wisconsin
Historical Society Preservation team because the building is on the National Register of Historic
structures. It is anticipated the two projects will be released for bid in June. Every heavy rain raises
concern that the building will again experience leaking in collections storage areas.
Mr. Larson then reported the next meeting with Engberg Anderson is May 16 and is focused on
engineering. Meetings are held every three weeks. The schematic and design development phase
requires a great deal of staff input. This is a challenging project because we are adding to an existing
structure, and there is an amazingly diverse blend of activities and requirements that take place
throughout the structure. Mr. Larson meets with Mr. Rohloff and Ms. Larson next week to bring
them up-to-date on work thus far, and to discuss this project. That concluded the Director's Report.
President Hoffman expressed he thoroughly enjoyed his time serving as President of the Board.
Mr. Hoffman then requested the Auxiliary Report.
Secretary Jean Thierman gave the report in Ms. Wuest's absence. May 10 is the Auxiliary's annual
luncheon and final meeting for the season. The Auxiliary fundraiser at Culvers is Tuesday, May
141h, 5:00-7:00 p.m. They would appreciate everyone stopping to buy. The first Gala meeting will
be June 19th at 10 am. Tentative Gala date will be Thursday 11/21 barring a Packer game. Pie on
the Lawn is set for July 14, 2019. That concluded the Auxiliary Report.
