ICVASS 2019 Next Steps Plan 1.23.19 ICVASS 2019 Next Steps Plan 1/23/19 Improve Communications and Visibility of Available Services to Seniors (ICVASS): OCOA Sub- Committee Goals Report: Judy Richey, Julie Maslowski, Sue Ashton and Ron Duerkop Plan of Action/Next Steps for 2019: 2017 Strategic Plan Phase I and Phase II Goals are: Assess-Determine current situation identifying gaps, determining OCOA role and developing a plan to connect with partner agencies and collect information on true senior needs. 1. Continue to invite individuals representing entities working with older adults to present at OCOA monthly meetings. a. Transportation: Making The Ride Happen b. Elder Rights Project c. BOALTC-Nursing Home Ombudsman Program d. WCHD-Evidence Based Programs e. Winnebago County Nutrition Program-Community Gardens-ADVOCAP f. Fox Valley Advanced Care Planning g. Adult Protective Services-ADRC h. Accessing Resource Information: ADRC Resource Directory/Website/Committee i. K-9 Officer Fettig with K-9 Dog Lando (Narcotics, Search and Protection) j. Companion Service Dogs 2. Continue to get service/resource information out to seniors and the wider community via: a. Televising OCOA monthly meetings/service-resource agencies' presentations b. Distribution of quarter sheet fliers regarding OCOA c. Encouraging communications via neighborhood association's leadership d. Attendance/participation/presentations at community groups. Example: ADRC Committee, Transportation Advisory Committee, etc. e. OCOA Booth participation in Senior Expo 2019 on October 1, 2019, State of the City Meeting March 18, 2019, Caring for the Caregiver Conference April 1, 2019 and various events for seniors and/or family caregivers. f. Promote distribution and use of ADRC Resource Directory and ADRC Website g. Seek informational improvements to OCOA section of the Oshkosh City Website h. Report new/updated information on programs/policies/resources from Federal/State/City entities at OCOA meetings. Example: Scam alerts, DHS health and safety alerts, etc. When appropriate, include them as on-screen graphics during OCOA meetings. Highlight/promote upcoming senior/community related events at OCOA meetings. Examples: State of The City/March 18th; Unity in The Community/April 13th 3. Continue to inventory the true needs of seniors, connect with all senior organizations and services that are available. a. Gain input from presenters at OCOA monthly meetings. b. Seek input from service entities when attending/participating in their meetings. Examples: ADRC Committee, Transportation Advisory Committee, WCDH Committee. c. Secure info on needs via conversations with concerned citizens one-on-one and small group settings. d. Consider other methods/means of getting opinions/input from seniors who are not part of organized groups, e.g., Town Halls, mailed questionnaires, etc. 4. Continue to educate seniors and organizations that serve seniors on the programs and facilities for them to use. Publicize and get the word out for outreach programs. Work with the Oshkosh Northwestern and Oshkosh Herald to get a monthly recap of OCOA meeting published. Continue to do this via televised OCOA monthly meeting presentations, member reports, attendance/participation in other entities' meetings and individual member one-on-one or small group contacts. 5. Continue efforts to create communication tools for services on the City of Oshkosh website by: a. Enhancing the OCOA page to help viewers locate past OCOA meeting presentations by topic. b. Linking community services, educational webinars and other pertinent information on the OCOA page. c. Continue to televise OCOA meetings on Spectrum Channel 10, YouTube, Hulu, Roku, AT&T U-Verse and/or other venues as developed by Oshkosh Media, as well as, being available for viewing on the Oshkosh Media website. 6. Increase the number of Seniors with Advanced Directives by partnering with Fox Valley Advanced Care Planning during the month of May to help promote the importance of completing Durable Powers of Attorney for Heath Care and Property/Finances. Also, provide information for local advanced care planning events such as Aurora Medical Center, links to officially recognized forms for the state of Wisconsin, etc. 7. Continue to take advantage of opportunities to increase the visibility of OCOA in the community throughout the year via televised OCOA monthly meetings available for replay on the City Website as well as Oshkosh Media several times per week, member attendance/participation in various community agency meetings and participation with a booth at Senior Expo 2019, State of the City, Caring for the Caregiver Conference, and other local events when appropriate.
