OSHKOSH LANDMARKS COMMISSION TO: Landmarks Commission FROM: Steven Wiley, Staff Liaison DATE: March 61h, 2019 SUBJECT: Item 8: Social Media—Discussion/Action 1.) Initiated by: Staff Liaison Steven Wiley, Commissioner Nikki Stoll Olthoff This item involves the City's new social media policy and our methods for using social media (currently Facebook). The City Manager has implemented a new policy and instructed staff rather than board or commission members to serve as the administrators of all Board and Commission social media pages. Staff was also directed to obtain board/commission input before posting non-staff originated material. 2.) Is the item related to an Historic District/contributing,listed individually, Landmarked or eligible? Some of the properties mentioned in the Facebook post are historically significant. 2a.) Does item conform with all Local, State, or other Ordinances, Statutes? Any posting will conform with City standards for social media use. 2b.) Has the State Historical Society been notified or involved? N/A 2c.) Are other organizations or entities involved? Not currently 3.) Are Historic Tax Credits applicable for this item? N/A—Social media can serve as a means by which to notify or educate the community on tax credits and other programs. 4.) Does this pertain to municipally-owned structures? N/A 5.) What is the Commission priority#for this item? Not a top priority of the commission currently. 5a.) Does the Commission have enough information for action(s)? The Commission will receive information on materials Commissioners are asking to post and can weigh in at the Landmarks meeting. The Commission should have enough information for action. Discussion Considerations 1.) More research or follow up on Item? If you are unable to attend this meeting,it is important to notify Steven Wiley (920-236-5062) in case a quorum cannot be attained. OSHKOSH LANDMARKS COMMISSION Staff will serve as administrator of the Facebook page and ensure that the materials posted comply with City policies. The Commission can work with staff to determine potential material for posting and originate ideas for material. The Commission can approve materials originated by Commissioners. 2.) Take actions? Staff and the Commission will over time adjust to the new policy and continue to use the Landmarks Facebook page as a means of outreach if the Commission would like to continue doing so. For March Commissioner Nikki Stoll Olthoff asked if Landmarks could share the included post on the Landmarks Facebook page. 6.) Follow up? Until any change in City policy occurs, staff can follow up and post after each Landmarks meeting.
