RE: Cooperative Purchase of Portable Radios for Fire Department
BACKGROUND
The portable radios used by the Fire Department's hazardous materials team have become obsolete and
the department needs to purchase 12 new radios. The total cost for these new radios is $28,291.88. A
budget amendment for these radios has been placed under the Consent portion of the January 22, 2019
Common Council meeting.
ANALYSIS
Purchasing has verified that Motorola Solutions holds the State of Wisconsin Department of
Administration contract(#505ENT-016-SAFETYCOMM-00) for these radios.
FISCAL IMPACT
A budget amendment of$28,291.88 has been made for this project. The fiscal impact for 12 radios from
Motorola's state contract is$25,151.12. The remaining dollars for this project will cover additional radio
equipment, components and programming. This purchase will be charged to A/N#: 0217-0230.
RECOMMENDATION
Section 12-15 of the Municipal Code provides that subject to approval of the City Manager, cooperative
purchases pursuant to a contract with any other local, state or federal governmental unit or agency may
be made without following a competitive bidding or quotation process. In accordance with Section 12-
15 of the Municipal Code, I am hereby submitting a report of this purchase to the Common Council. If
