HomeMy WebLinkAbout35. 19-32 REVISED JANUARY 8, 2019 19-32 RESOLUTION (CARRIED LOST LAID OVER 6-0 WITHDRAWN ) UNTIL COUNCIL MEETS WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD PURPOSE: SUPPORT TO PROVIDE SUBSIDIZED TRANSIT SERVICE FOR STUDENTS IN THE OSHKOSH AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT INITIATED BY: COUNCIL MEMBER TOM PECH WHEREAS, Citizen groups have made presentations to both the Oshkosh Common Council and the Oshkosh Area School District Board in support of making public bus transportation subsidized to all students within the Oshkosh Area School District; and WHEREAS,various community groups have indicated support for a program that provides subsidized busing to students in the Oshkosh community; and WHEREAS, the Oshkosh Common Council recognizes the value of public transportation for students, while at the same time recognizing that the GO Transit system must be self-sustaining due to limitations on public spending and limited state and federal public transit funds. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Oshkosh as follows: 1. The City Oshkosh hereby pledges up to $12,500 in matching support towards making public transportation available to elementary and secondary students within the Oshkosh Area School District. 2. This initial support will be funded by surplus City revenues raised in the City's 2018 fiscal year. 3. The City's match will provide $1 in city support for every $2 in private funds raised, up to $12,500. 4. Private support may not include other public support that may be provided by the Oshkosh Area School District or other public entities.
