Mr. Hoffman requested Mr. Larson present the monthly Director's Report. Mr. Larson began his report with an update on the Menominee Clan Figures. The agreement with Richard Frechette is being reviewed and Mr. Larson expects signatures within a few weeks. Because time is of the essence, staff will begin dismantling the Winnebago Room exhibits on October 15. The target plan is to begin fit-out the first week of November, and that work will all be done in-house by Museum and City staff. The work includes patching and painting, electrical, media, flooring, and case work. Fit-out must be completed by January so that the Clan figure exhibit infrastructure, consisting of plaster rocks and a painted mural, can be installed. Mr. Larson then reported on the removal of the Fire Barn. The building and associated concrete is gone and Mr. Larson commended the Street Division for their outstanding work and cooperation in making this possible. All the demolition and removal work was done without any adverse impact to the memorial white oak tree, and the site is now being made ready for seeding. The Museum received overwhelming, positive public feedback through social media. Mr. Larson noted the removal helps signify that the Museum is evolving in a positive, progressive manner. In conclusion, Mr. Larson gave an update on the Capital Improvement budget. The Museum's budgets will be reviewed by the Common Council on October 30. If approved, 2019 will be a very full and exciting year! Staff will kick-off conceptual planning on the Sporting & Recreation exhibition in late winter, once there is a new Registrar in place. Although design development for the big second floor exhibition (red gallery) is not until 2020, it is essential that staff use the time wisely by identifying artifacts and storylines, especially utilizing Registrar Joan Lloyd's knowledge of collections before she retires in February 2019. It is still anticipated that design development for the building modifications will be done over two years. Mr. Larson expects this work will begin in spring. As for the foundation assessment, the Sawyer home originally had a drain that simply emptied into a drain field on the north grounds. How this drain was capped is unknown. That concluded the Director's Report. There were no Board member statements. Mr. Hoffman requested the World War One (WWI) Commemoration Committee Report. Ms. Matzke began by thanking Mr. Larson for hosting two evenings of events at the Museum. She thanked Membership-Marketing Coordinator Karla Szekeres for handling the marketing and media, and Museum staff for organizing, setting up, and working those evenings. Ms. Matzke thanked Mr. Loiacono for his extensive work in arranging the many events and presentations at the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh. Mr. Loiacono noted that the symposium went well, with 25-70 people in each presentation. Participants included faculty, staff, students, and people from the community. Mr. Larson noted that many of the guests at the evening events were first time visitors and it is always a good thing to have new people discover the Museum. Ms. Matzke reported that the final event is having the churches (that have outside bells) ring those bells on Nov. 111h in remembrance of the end of WWI, Armistice Day. She noted that bell ringing is an event communities across the country will do - it is the national Bells of Peace initiative. Each Board member received a copy of the minutes of the last WWI Commemoration Committee meeting. That concluded the WWI Commemoration Committee report. Mr. Hoffman then requested that Ms. Wuest present the Auxiliary Report. Auxiliary President Kathy Wuest reported that Gala planning is coming together nicely. The Gala is set for Thursday, November 29th. The first fall meeting of the Auxiliary is set for Friday, October 12. That concluded the Auxiliary Report. With no other agenda items, Mr. Hoffman asked for a motion to adjourn. Ms. Herzog so moved and Ms. Thierman seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous in favor and the motion was passed.
