WWI Symposium — UWO and Oshkosh Public Museum, Oct. 2-4
Karla reported that she put news out on Oshkosh Independent Sat. 9/20. She will also
contact the Herald, and linked to the program on Linked In. Today or tomorrow she will
submit info to all media.
Gabe said the UWO Marketing Department is publicizing events of the symposium through
faculty, student, and alumni e-mails. The History department will also make half sheet
handouts with info about the different sessions. UWO Marketing will be contacting TV
channels next week— like to do this last minute. Gabe will do a short interview with UWO
marketing, recorded in the museum, to publicize the vent.
Steve suggested that Karla contact the Convention and Visitors' Bureau to publicize the
event. Steve will also announce it at the Council meeting tomorrow.
Karla said Learning In Retirement is having a program this week at the museum, so she will
announce the symposium. Sandy will contact activity director at Evergreen to publicize this;
will also publicize with library website. One retiree group may be coming to the Thursday
night music event.
Parking in lot across from Reeve Union will be free— no ticketing for the symposium days.
The museum will be open continuously from 4:30 to 7 for the night events Tuesday and
Thursday. Softly open to 7:30 p.m. so attendees can look at the exhibit after the
talks/performance.
Standees
All standees will be moved to Reeve Union at UWO for the symposium —Steinhilber Gallery
on 3rd floor.
Sandy will bring the standees from the library and arena; Becky will pick up the ones at
Mercy and Community First Credit union; Bob will deliver the one from the EAA museum.
After the symposium, the standees will be replaced in different locations.
Nov. 11— Bell-ringing
Karla signed us up to be affiliated with the national Bells of Peace initiative. Karla has
received more replies from Oshkosh churches, though many do not have an external bell.
Rainbow Memorial Park
Steve will check with Parks Director Ray Mauer about publicity for restoration of name of
Rainbow Memorial Park. (It had never been renamed 'Rainbow Park;' the usage just
became common.)
Other Armistice commemoration
Becky will follow up on earlier communication to the Oshkosh Northwestern to run a story
about the end of war in Oshkosh. Karla will contact Karen at the Herald to maybe run
something also.

Subject: Thanks to the WWI Committee!
Hello, all.
The Oshkosh World War I Commemoration Committee has finished its work, so this will be my
final e-mail to the group. Thank you all for your great work in the past year and a half to make
the community aware of its World War I history. It's been wonderful to get to know you and
work with you.
The standees are at the Senior Center for their military tribute on Nov. 14 and will stay at the
Museum after that. I'll be writing thank-you notes to all the businesses and organizations that
have hosted them.
I hope you heard the bells on Sunday! The Northwestern covered that effort and its national
connection (thanks, Karla!) and ran the column that I wrote on how Oshkosh celebrated the
news back in 1918. It must have been quite a day.
Again, thank you for all you've done for this community history project. I hope to see you
around town.
Sincerely,
Becky
