RE: Budget Amendment for 2018 Fire EPCRA Grant
BACKGROUND
In order to replace expired or obsolete equipment for the Hazardous -Materials team an
amendment to the 2018 Hazardous Materials budget will need to be made. The total amount to
replace the equipment will be in the amount of $7,700.00
ANALYSIS
The primary pieces of equipment that needs replaced are chlorine kits. The changes in
specifications for chlorine storage cylinders have rendered the existing kits obsolete. In order to
best protect our community and meet our obligations for county and state response, the kits
need to be updated.
FISCAL IMPACT
Eighty -percent of the funds, $6,160 will be reimbursed from an EPCRA grant. The remaining
twenty -percent, $1,540 will be drawn from existing reserves from the Fire Department/Safety
Fund that is funded by the county and state. The fund balance as of January 1, 2018 was
$345,705.
RECOMMENDATION
The recommendation would be that Common Council approve this amendment so purchasing
the equipment can occur. This will allow us to continue a high level of service and keep our
community safe.
Respectfully Submitted,
Mike Stanley
Fire Chief
