RE: Designate Clairville Road as a through street where it intersects with Compass Way
BACKGROUND
The new Trans -load facility has opened and Compass Way off Clairville Road is the access
point for trucks. If passed, the stop sign would be installed on Compass Way to stop traffic
traveling west at the intersection of Clairville Road. This is a request from Community
Development.
ANALYSIS
With the new Trans -load facility now open, there is increased truck traffic traveling west on
Compass Way at Clairville Road to egress the facility. This increased truck traffic increases
the likelihood of conflicts with vehicles on Clairville Road. The proposed stop sign is a
proactive measure to prevent potential collisions on Clairville Road with large heavy duty
trucks.
The Traffic and Parking Advisory Board recommends approval. (7 — 0)
FISCAL IMPACT
The fiscal impact of this ordinance is the cost of signage. The signage cost would come out of the Sign
Department operational budget.
RECOMMENDATION
Section 27A-8 of the Municipal Code pertains to through street designated. I recommend that the
Common Council approve this ordinance.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jim Collins
Transportation Director
