SUBJECT: Item 7: Lakeshore Site-Follow Up and Potential National Register Nomination
1.) Initiated by: City Staff, Shirley Brabender Mattox-Chair, Oshkosh Landmarks

a.) The item is within the purview of the Commission per the Historic Preservation
Ordinance. It concerns an historic Woodland campsite at the Lakeshore Municipal
Golf Course.
2.) Is the item related to an Historic District/contributing, listed individually, Landmarked
or eligible?
The site in question is located on Oshkosh Corporation land and the City-owned
parcel. The UWM Cultural Management team has determined that part of the site
could be eligible for listing on the National Register.
2a.) Does item conform with all Local, State, or other Ordinances, Statutes?
All archeological work on-site performed by UWM has conformed with the standards
of the State Historical Society. The State has been involved. Any potential
nomination process would have to conform with the process laid out in the Historic
Preservation Ordinance and prescribed by the State Historical Society.
2b.) Has the State Historical Society been notified or involved?
Not yet for a potential nomination-still early in the process. They will be involved if
the nomination moves forward.
2c.) Are other organizations or entities involved?
Yes-Oshkosh Corporation would have to approve moving the process forward if the
nomination would apply to their parcel.
3.) Are Historic Tax Credits applicable for this item?
Not currently.
4.) Is this a municipally-owned structure?
Part of the area excavated is municipally-owned. The remainder is on Oshkosh
Corporation land.
5.) What is the Commission priority#for this item?
Can make a case that this is a#1 item (listed under Ongoing activities).

5a.) Does the Commission have enough information for action(s)?
The Commission will want to obtain support from Oshkosh Corporation but also
have the results and final report from the UWM Cultural Management work currently
in progress. Lab work and cataloguing is currently on-going.
