HomeMy WebLinkAbout5-17-18 MINUTES BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES-May 17,2018 PRESENT: Adam BellCorelli,Vicky Redlin,Jim Michelson, Brad Brown STAFF: Assistant Planner;Alexa Naudziunas; 1. Call to Order Mr. Michelson called the meeting to order at 4:01 p.m. 2. Approval of April 19,2018 Meeting Minutes Ms. Redlin moved to approve April 19, 2018 meeting minutes and Mr. BellCorelli seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. 3. Staff Updates-Bikes Lanes,Traffic Accident,Plan Update Ms. Naudziunas provided an update on the bike lane implementation and approval. She explained that the N Main Street bike lanes were approved by Common Council. The Smith Street bike lanes were approved from Vinland Street to Jackson Street and sharrows from Jackson Street to N Main Street. She explained that the Wisconsin Street route will be prioritized for implementation and the other routes will be implemented later in the summer. Ms. Naudziunas explained that East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission is still working on the plan update. The committee briefly discussed the traffic accident that occurred on May 3, 2018 on South Park Avenue. The committee decided to wait to hear if any more information is released. 4. Service Recognition Idea (Crossing Guards) -Adam BellCorelli Mr. BellCorelli explained that he thought it might be an interesting idea to create a recognition program for the crossing guards. The committee discussed this and found out that the crossing guards are funded by the city not the school district. Mr. BellCorelli explained that he talked with Winnebago County Health Department as a potential partner for the recognition program. Sergeant Stenson oversees the crossing guards for just the city. The committee would like to focus on only the City of Oshkosh crossing guards. Mr. BellCorelli agreed to research the idea further and report back at a different meeting. 5. BikeOsh 2018-Update Ms. Naudziunas explained that the third BikeOsh event was held on May 51h. Ms. Naudziunas said that the Oshkosh North Communities students were valuable to have on the day of the event. There were approximately 164 participants this year. Ms. Naudziunas thanked the committee members for helping plan the event. The committee discussed potential improvements for next year: • Improved way finding signage on the event day. • Hang posters during the event for people to write ideas/feedback on. • Have a sign-in sheet to develop list of contacts. • Provide information on distance of route. • Create a recommended route to help riders. • Continue to partner with Jimmy Johns since that has received positive feedback. 6. Agenda Items for the Future Meeting(s) The committee expressed an interest in discussing the Wiouwash Trail with city or county staff. 7.
