HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem IXCity of Oshkosh WI Environmental Leadership Awards PROPOSAL Beginning in 2018, the City of Oshkosh Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB) will award one individual and one group for environmental leadership. These awards are designed to recognize individuals or groups whose environmental leadership has made a significant contribution to the community and has had a significant impact on the environment. A successful award program may be expanded upon in future years. The SAB may also wish to honor other nominees for their contributions or their nominations. The SAB, with assistance from staff and the Rotary Environmental and Beautification Committee, will market the awards to environmental and community groups as well as to the general public. Nominations are to be made by emailing the SAB general information email address or specific purpose email. Nominations must include the name, contact information and a photo of the nominee as well as of the person making the nomination, a brief (e.g., 500 word) summary of the nominee's contribution(s) to the environment and no more than 3 letters of support and/or 3 exhibits. The awards will be evaluated using the following criteria: 1. Environmental activism within the City of Oshkosh (participation over time) 2. Leadership contribution (positions and tenure) 3. Development of an innovative or model program or facility in use or being considered for use by others. 4. Leading or fostering a long term initiative making a substantial contribution to the environmental protection or removal of environmental hazards. 5. Leadership influential in achieving a documented substantial improvement in quality of the environment. The Draft awards cycle for 2018: 1. March: SAB or subcommittee to review proposal 2. April: SAB and City to approve proposal 3. May: Market Award via publication on SAB webpage, and through personal contacts, emails, and selected media 4. June – July: Applications Accepted Establish Review Committee 5. August – September: Applications reviewed 6. October: Award recommendations to SAB. Awards made at City Council
