From: Ray Maurer, Parks Director
Date: January 2, 2018
Subject: January 8, 2018 meeting
New Business
1.Discuss construction and donation of batting cage at Teichmiller Park
The Oshkosh North Baseball group would like to make a donation of a batting cage to
Teichmiller Park. This field is often used by many of the youth organizations and the ball field
will be renovated in spring as part of the funding from the Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative.
The neighborhood association in this area supports the batting cage and ball field renovation
project. The batting cage would be installed between the ball field and the tennis courts. The
Board will discuss and possibly make a recommendation to approve the donation.
2.Recommend approval of Tobacco Free Parks ordinance
The ordinance included in your packets was drafted as a result of prior discussions with the
Advisory Park Board. The Board will discuss and possibly recommend to the Common Council
approval and adoption of the ordinance.
3.Discussion on remaining acreage at Lakeshore Municipal Golf Course
The City of Oshkosh will be working with a company called POLCO to assist in receiving public
opinion on different topics throughout the city. POLCO works with communities to garner
public input from a wider and more varied audience than traditional methods used in the past.
The company is then able to put the information together in a comprehensive manner and
provide better demographic information than previous outlets. One item in particular the City
will be utilizing their services for is to determine what will become of the 69.63 acres remaining
after the sale of a portion of Lakeshore Municipal Golf Course to Oshkosh Corporation is
completed. Along with the survey there will be opportunities for public input meetings in the
future as well. Staff is looking forward to a new avenue of receiving input from the public and
hope that POLCO will help to provide a broader group of participants than past surveys have.
Staff from POLCO will be in attendance to discuss their software product with the Board.
4.Recommend approval of Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP)
The Board will discuss and possibly recommend to the Plan Commission and the Common
Council approval of the CORP as prepared by Rettler Corporation.
5.Review and recommend approval of the Pollock Community Water Park Agreement between
the City of Oshkosh and Oshkosh Area School District
The Board will discuss approval of the Pollock Community Water Park Agreement between the
City of Oshkosh and Oshkosh Area School District. This agreement is more or less an extension
of prior agreements which have been renewed every three years in the past. Staff recommends
approval.
Update on Capital Improvement Plan (CIP)
6.
I will review with the Board the numerous CIP projects that have been approved by the
Common Council as they pertain to the Parks Department. Staff looks forward to
implementation of these projects and how they will impact our City.
