JOINT WORKSHOP DISCUSSION TOPICS
SEPTEMBER 12, 2017
TOPICS
.
1. DISCUSSION AND DIRECTION TO STAFF ON WISCONSIN STREET BIKE
LANES
This route is part of the 2011 council approved Bike and Pedestrian Plan. When
Wisconsin Street was reconstructed it was made 54 feet wide in preparation for the
eventual installation of two 4 foot bike lanes. This is also the reason for the curb cut
outs on each side of the bridge that connect the river walk to the road. This route will
connect the Riverwalk to the bike lanes on High Avenue, Algoma Boulevard and Irving
Avenue.
The TRAB voted against this plan at the August 8th meeting.
A compromise might be to start and end bike lanes where the cutouts for the Riverwalk
are on the north side on the bridge and continue them to Irving Avenue. Sharrows
could be incorporated over the bridge if desired.
2. DISCUSSION AND DIRECTION TO STAFF ON WASHINGTON AVENUE BIKE
LANES
Washington Avenue from Main Street to Broad Street is being reconstructed in 2018.
This segment of roadway is slated for bike lanes based on the 2011 Bike and Pedestrian
Plan. This segment would connect to the sharrows and bike lanes on Algoma
Boulevard. The current curb to curb pavement width is 44 feet from Main Street to
Jefferson Street, 36 feet from Jefferson Street to Mt. Vernon Street and 32 feet from Mt.
Vernon Street to Board Street. Please see the attached road profiles.
The following are the current parking stall counts on Washington Avenue:
Main to Jefferson – North Side 4 Parking Stalls
State to Court – South Side 14 Parking Stalls
Court to Broad – South Side 8 Parking Stalls
TRAB AGENDA ITEMS 2 August 2017
Please contact the Traffic Review Advisory Board at TRAB@ci.oshkosh.wi.us with any questions or concerns.
Total Parking Stalls on South Side – 22
Total Parking Stalls on North Side – 4
Please see the attached diagram which illustrates current parking conditions.
The Department of Public Works will be designing Washington Avenue this fall in
preparation for the project to be bid in early 2018. If bicycle amenities are to be
included in the plan it is best to design the street with them included. It is much harder
to retrofit them in at a later date.
