RE: Modify Parking Restrictions on New York Avenue
BACKGROUND
This ordinance modifies parking restrictions on New York Avenue. It changes the parking
restriction from 1 -hour to 2 -hour parking on the south side of New York Avenue, from the
eastern right of way line of Cedar Street to 130 feet east of Cedar Street between 8:00 am and
6:00 pm. This request comes from the owner or Tangles Salon at 1021 W. New York Avenue.
The Traffic Review Advisory Board recommends approval. (6-0)
ANALYSIS
The one hour parking in this area was designed to encourage vehicle turnover in the
university area for businesses such as this. The salon now has patrons that park for more than
one hour and they have begun to receive parking tickets.
FISCAL IMPACT
The fiscal impact of this ordinance is the cost of signage. The signage cost would come out of
the Sign Department operational budget.
RECOMMENDATION
Section 27A-11 of the Municipal Code pertains to parking regulations on designated streets
and alleys. I recommend that the Common Council approve this ordinance.
