Many waste streams can be received by WMMWI without having to provide analytical testing results due to the standard composition of the waste such as: thermometers, switches, lamps, etc. Some waste streams due to their chemical variability, must be analyzed as part of the WMMWI acceptance protocol and/or at WMMWI request. WMMWI uses the analysis to identify several criteria for acceptance: a) Whether processing the material could pose potential hazards during the retort process b) Whether potential contaminants exist that would exceed the exemption limit of 500 ppm organic compounds listed in State of Wisconsin Hazardous Waste Regulation NR 661, Appendix VIII, for smelting, melting, and refining furnaces operated for metal recovery. NR 666.100(4)(b)(1) and CFR 40 266(0)]. c) Whether or not the material exhibits the characteristics of a hazardous waste other than mercury, and if so, the applicability of underlying hazardous constituents (UHCs). The table below lists the required analytical for specified waste streams. TOTAL TOTAL TOTAL VOCs SVOCs PCBs Volatile Organic Semi-Volatile Polychlorinated Compounds Organic Compounds Biphenyls Test Method: SW 8260 SW 8270 SW 8082 Waste stream• Soil X X X Sludge X X X Carbon X X X Filter Media X X X *WM MWI does not require TCLP analysis for mercury retort approval. However, if the total analysis indicates that other characteristic waste codes could apply, TCLP analysis for those compounds may be required for waste characterization. To avoid profile approval delays you may submit TCLP at your choice. This list is not exclusive. Additional requests for analytical on waste streams may be made by WMMWI.
