GO Transit makes a few upgrades a year based on budget available. He told benches were installed at 9th & Westfield and by the Heritage Court Apartments just north of St. Vincent de Paul last year. He said part of the bench in the shelter at Advocap was removed to make it ADA compliant. He said the stop at New York and Broad was moved to New York and Grand because the stop was on a grass terrace that was not shoveled in winter. The bus stop at Hazel & Irving was moved to Hazel and Cleveland because the concrete from a bench that was located there makes is easier to board wheel chairs. Topic Facilitator Discussion Actions 2017 Bus Stop Improvement Plan Continued David Vickman David Vickman said GO Transit has three used shelters available which includes a large 6’ X 17’ shelter from Winnebago County, and two 5’ X 10” shelters, one of which needs glass repair. He told the shelter currently on the corner of 9th & Oakwood could be moved to a new location since this stop has very low usage as the bus now serves the front door of Mercy Medical Center. Jim Collins said each year GO Transit improves some of its bus stops. He explained the bus stop at 9th & Oakwood would remain; the shelter would be moved to a location with higher ridership. Staff proposed that the largest shelter be placed at North High School which has the most ridership and the standard sized shelter placed at West High School. He told GO Transit would need to have discussion with the school district and get permission to place the shelters on school property. He said the third stop for improvements would be the Festival Foods shelter on N. Westhaven Dr. He said staff recommends extending the partial carriage walk 7’ to the curb to improve accessibility. He said Mike Norton has been working with Winnebago County to pour a slab for a shelter on county property near Algoma Blvd. & Dawes St. He went on to say currently there is a bench which is too close to the curb. He explained that staff could remove the bench which would create a wide concrete path to the curb for all riders to use when boarding. There was discussion about the bus stops at 20th/Arizona, Otter/Mill, and Logan Dr. 1st: Caroline Panske 2nd: Evelyn Meuret Carried: 4 – 0 Committee Name: Transit Advisory Board Date: 5/17/17 Location: City Hall 3 Please contact the Transit Advisory Board at TAB@ci.oshkosh.wi.us with any questions or concerns.
