IN—Mal "*I TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Jim Collins, Director of Transportation DATE: August 19, 2016 RE: Ordinance to modify speed limits on Knapp Street Road and Waukau Avenue BACKGROUND This ordinance modifies the speed limits on Knapp Street Road from STH 44 to Waukau Avenue and Waukau Avenue from Poberezny Road to Knapp Street Road. This ordinance would modify the speed limit on these roads to the city default of 25 mph. The Traffic Review Advisory Board recommends approval (5 -0). ANALYSIS The current ordinances designate the speed limit as 40 mph in these areas. The ordinance is outdated as these streets no longer connect and dead end into airport property. Waukau Avenue is under county jurisdiction for signage and the county agreed with 25 mph and changed the signs. Knapp Street Road is a dead end street that is primarily used by residents and to access the beer tents during EAA. FISCAL IMPACT The fiscal impact of this ordinance is the cost of signage. The cost of the signs would come out of the Sign Department operations budget. RECOMMENDATION Section 27 -8 of the Municipal Code regulates speed limits. I recommend that the Common Council approve this ordinance. Respectfully Submitted, Jim Collins Director of Transportation Approved: Mark A. Rohloff City Manager City Manager Mark A.
