A goal of the Acanthus Awards is to further historic preservation by identifying, evaluating and protecting the City's cultural resources by calling attention to the cultural, economic, social or historic heritage of our City. Past recipients have ranged from organizations to property owners as well as individuals involved in activities that have enhanced our historic and cultural resources. The City of Oshkosh Landmarks Commission has chosen four entities to receive the annual City of Oshkosh Acanthus Historic Preservation Award for 2016. 1. Sandy Purity and Deb Toman "Facade Rehabilitation of the Commercial Structure at 17 Waugoo Avenue (Kohlmann's Block Building)" For restoration efforts of the transom window located above the storefront of the building, reversing previous inappropriate remodeling and restoring this important element original to the aesthetic of the historic structure. • Property owners Sandy Punty and Deb Toman will be accepting the Award 2. Joel and Katherine Meine " Facade Rehabilitation of the Residence at 1540 Algoma Boulevard (Charles Wood House /Queen Anne Architectural Style)" For appropriate maintenance efforts and complete painting of the residence located within the National Register Algoma Boulevard Historic District that helps to protect our historic resources. • Property owners Joel and Katherine Meine will be accepting the Award 3. Oshkosh/Winnebago County Housing Authority "Retention of a Commercial Structure at 522 -530 North Main Street (Raulf Hotel)" For retaining and restoring a substantial amount of the historic buildings interior and exterior thereby preserving the integrity of a historic structure located within the National Register North Main Street Historic District. • Susan (Su) Van Houwelingen, Executive Director of the Oshkosh/Winnebago County Housing Authority will be accepting the Award 4. 531 N Main LLC "Adaptive Reuse and Retention of a Commercial Structure at 531 North Main Street (Frank Percey Gun and Fur House)" For retaining/restoring the historic buildings original interior and exterior as well as facilitating its reuse, which has given a new life and modern purpose to the historic structure located within the National Register North Main Street Historic District. • Chet Wesenberg, architect on the project will be accepting the Award on behalf of the owners Shirley Brabender Mattox of the Oshkosh Landmarks Commission will say a few words about the awardees and their projects.
