Home My WebLink About06. 16-119MARCH 22, 2016 16-119 RESOLUTION (CARRIED__7-0____LOST______LAID OVER______WITHDRAWN______) PURPOSE: APPROVE DETERMINATION OF NECESSITY TO ACQUIRE PROPERTY AT 302 MERRITT AVENUE; AUTHORIZE REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY TO ACQUIRE 302 MERRITT AVENUE ($28,186.80) INITIATED BY: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY RECOMMENDATION: Approved WHEREAS, the Redevelopment Authority and Common Council previously approved the Near East Redevelopment Project Area; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the citizens of the City of Oshkosh to acquire property to improve residential neighborhoods and eliminate blighting conditions within said Redevelopment Area; and WHEREAS, Winnebago County has offered the property at 302 Merritt Avenue to the RDA for back taxes; and WHEREAS, the Redevelopment Authority approved acquiring said property for $28,186.80 plus closing costs at its March 16, 2016 meeting. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Oshkosh that the Common Council certifies it is necessary for the Redevelopment Authority to acquire the property at 302 Merritt Avenue pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 66 of the Wisconsin Statutes. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the proper Redevelopment Authority officials are authorized and directed to purchase said property for $28,186.80 plus closing costs and execute all documents necessary to consummate this transaction. Money for this purpose is hereby appropriated from Acct. ANALYSIS The property is vacant and the City intends to demolish the blighted property. Long term use of the property will be a future single family redevelopment site. FISCAL IMPACT The City will be using CDBG funds for the acquisition and demolition.
