Municipalities are authorized to adopt a code of ordinances by section 66.0103 of the Wisconsin
Statutes.
ANALYSIS
The City adopts ordinances on a regular basis creating new sections of the code, amending sections
or removing sections. Occasionally there are minor typographic types of errors along with changes in
page references or similar non-substantive revisions which are required when the ordinance changes
are assimilated into the codebook. Staff will make those corrections as necessary to maintain the
book in a clean, readable format. However it is beneficial to periodically readopt the entire code book
to specifically incorporate even these non-substantive changes and allow reference to the municipal
code book rather than requiring reference back to each individual ordinance that has passed. With
staff changes, it has been some time since we have published and formally re-adopted the code book
as a whole. The proposed ordinance would accomplish this at this time. Wisconsin Statutes require
publication at least two weeks prior to adoption of the code and that publication was completed on
February 6, 2016. In the future, it is our plan to calendar re-adoption of the code book on a more
regular basis.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to this ordinance.
