2015 Year In Review
Lakeshore Municipal Golf Course:
* The best golf weather in at least 20 years. The course opened for the season on March 12 and
closed on November 20.
* Over 26,000 rounds of golf played this season
* 138 golfers were in the annual City Tournament

* The 2 annual Big Cup Tournament saw an increase in participants of 21% over last year
* Continue to see an increase in young adult golfers since instituting a Young Adult season pass
Forestry Division:
* Washington Triangle, green space at Hazel St./New York Avenue/Menominee Drive, was
renovated by staff including new landscaping, sidewalks, lighting, and flag pole to celebrate this
historic area.
* Opera House Square landscaping renovations
* Planted 157 street trees and 35 park/memorial trees
* Removed 265 dead/dying/hazardous trees
* Removed 210 stumps
* Treated 155 ash trees to preserve them from Emerald Ash Borer infestation
* Pruned/trimmed 395 trees
* Held Arbor Day celebration in April

* Awarded Tree City USA for 34 consecutive year
* Landscape improvements at Leach Amphitheater and Abe Rochlin Park
* Landscape work at City Hall
Revenue Facilities including pool, zoo, amusements, Leach Amphitheater:
* All of these special events were 100% sponsored by businesses so they could be offered as free
events or low cost events for the community. Jenny secured over $26,000 in sponsorships for these
* Over 45,000 pool visitors during the season including 6 special events offered
* Over 115,000 Menominee Park Zoo visitors
* Zooloween Boo attendance was 4,732, the highest attendance in the 13 years of the event
* Snooze at the Zoo in June was attended by 60 people
* Egg-Citing Day at the Zoo had almost 1,500 people attend
* 2 movie nights at the Leach had almost 500 people attend
* Touch A Truck event at the Leach had about 2,000 attend
* Tuesday night concert series at the Leach had its best year yet

* 1 Annual Mascot Day and the Kids Kickoff Carnival at the amusements area were very well
attended
Cemetery Division:
* Mary Tollard retired after 35 years as Office Assistant
* Donna Brotske hired as Office Assistant
* Cemetery maintenance staff assisted with various park projects as well as maintained the lawn at
the Museum during their search for a new facility maintenance staff member
* Sold 58 cemetery lots
* Had 43 full burials and 37 ash burials
Parks Division:
* Promoted Chad Dallman to Assistant Parks Director
* Constructed new restroom/shelter building at Stevens Park
* Constructed new restroom/shelter building at Boatworks site on riverwalk
* Inclusive Playground completed at South Park
* Accessible perimeter walks installed around play equipment at West Algoma, Stevens and Roe
Parks
* Installed 5 memorial benches in the parks
* Teichmiller Park paths installed

* 24 Street boat launch restroom facility was renovated and new roof added
* Installed 3 historic signs along the Riverwalk
* Worked with Downtown Business Improvement District to install a marquee sign at Opera House
Square to advertise downtown and community-wide events
* Carl Steiger Park gazebo renovated as part of agreement with UW-Oshkosh
* Constructed an arbor at the gazebo at the Leach Amphitheater
* New fence installed at the amusements area
* New barrier fence installed at the zoo
* Installed 3 new scoreboards at Red Arrow Park ball fields which were donated by the YMCA
* Assisted with all special events in the parks
* New rack system and concrete work at canoe/kayak area at amusements

* Parking lot striping at 24 Avenue boat launch site
* Path improvements at North High Conservancy
Seniors Center:
*Jane Wells promoted to Program Supervisor
* Evan Bremberger hired as Activities Coordinator
* Bobbie Jo Luft hired as Office Assistant
* Kathy Snell left the Seniors Center to become the first Special Events Coordinator for the City.
This position was added to the Parks Department and is funded through Room Tax.
* The Center was reaccredited through the Wisconsin Association of Senior Centers
* Friends of the OSC recognized at the 2015 State of the City for their support of the OSC. They
contribute about $75,000 annually to the OSC.
* Special events held included Breakfast with the Bunny, Granny Smith walk/run, spaghetti dinner
and first annual Murder Mystery Dinner was huge success.
* Cycling Without Age, in conjunction with Lutheran Homes, allows senior citizens the opportunity
to enjoy bike riding similar to rickshaw rides except rider is out front.
2016 Projects
Lakeshore Municipal Golf Course:
* Promote and increase golf outings
* Sell hole sponsorships remaining
* Eliminate bunker/hazard on hole 15
* Install drainage system at hole 2 tee area
* Create grass waterway through hole 5 rough to pond
Forestry Division:
* Update tree inventory
* Continue Emerald Ash Borer mitigation
* Update Chapter 26 of the Municipal Code
* Tree planting program in conjunction with Great Neighborhoods initiatives
Revenue Facilities including pool, zoo, amusements, Leach Amphitheater:
* New automated pool vacuum
* Design new eagle exhibit at zoo
* Design and construct new prairie dog exhibit at zoo
* Install new fee boxes at boat launches
* Purchase new utility cart for zoo
* Install walkway around otter exhibit
* Determine necessary repairs for carousel at amusements
* Work with Zoological Society on hiring Education Coordinator at the zoo, funded by Society
Cemetery Division:
* Purchase new lawn mower trailer
* Continue assessment and removal of dead/dying trees
* Design and develop cemetery web page and marketing materials
* Replace roof on chapel
* Work with Landmarks Commission to develop a plan for chapel restoration
Parks Division:
* New restroom/shelter building at South Park
* Renovate restrooms at Red Arrow Park
* Demolish and renovate Little Oshkosh
* William Steiger Park path repaving

* Replace lights at Teichmiller and Roe Parks
* Design lagoon and park improvements for South Park, project to be implemented in 2017
* Wayfinding and directional signage along Riverwalk
* Purchase new compact wheel loader

* Assist with new Riverwalk sections at Jeld Wen site and east of Oregon Street bridge
* Assist Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau with athletic facility/complex assessment
* Upgrades to Chief Oshkosh statue site
* Sea, Sand and Sailorland improvements
* Historic marker sign for George Washington statue site
* Install handicap accessible canoe/kayak dock at Boatworks site along Riverwalk
Seniors Center:
* Develop E-newsletter
* Reconstruct parking lot(s)
* Install sidewalk around south building
* Install patio at south building
* Replace flooring in south building, carpeting and hard surfaces that were not done in 2012
* Paint exterior of south building
* Clean pole shed for occasional special event use
* Replace outside building signage
* Paint great room
* Implement Silver Sneakers program
