No. 541-1867-6426-08671 Water Fund - Maintenance of Structures CAP) OJHKOJH ON THE WATER MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council ( FROM: Stephan M. Brand, Public Works Utility Bureau Manager DATE: January 7, 2016 RE: Award Bid for Public Works Contract No. 16-10 Southwest Water Tower Interior Painting Maguire Iron, Inc/$221,790 BACKGROUND The Southwest Water Tower was installed in 1994 as part of Water Utility improvements, which included water mains and a booster station, to create a high pressure zone to serve the southwest portion of the City. Regular maintenance and inspections are performed on the City's water towers to evaluate the overall condition of the towers. This includes the paint that protects the metal in the water tower structures. Recent inspections have indicated the interior paint on the Southwest Water Tower has started to show early signs of failure and it needs to be repainted. Typical water tower painting cycles are 10 to 15 years. This is the first interior re-paint of this water tower. ANALYSIS Department of Public Works staff reviewed four bids. The low bid was received from Maguire Iron, Inc. of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The total bid is $221,790. FISCAL IMPACT Funding for the project is included in the 2016 Water Utility Operating Budget under Transmission and Distribution Maintenance of Structures. Funding for the mixing system included in the bid is included in the Property Improvements —Water Utility section of the 2016 Capital Improvement Program ($40,000). A total of$273,000 was budgeted for this project. RECOMMENDATIONS I recommend award to the low bidder, Maguire Iron, Inc., in the amount of$221,790. Approved: Mark A.
