Just a note of thanks for sharing with me the Common Council's
resolution in support of the reinstatement of raa.l passenger
facilities between Milwaukee and Green Bay.
Certainly, in light of present energy shortages, the need for
additional publi.c transportation is real. AMTRAK has provided an
important link in Wisconsin's transportation network in the past, and,
like you, I believe the decision to reduce service was a most
unfortunate one.
With this in mind I have been in touch with Department of
Transportation official as well as officials of the National Rail
Passanger Corporation in the past in an effort to improve rail
pasaenger service to Wisconsin. I intend to continue in this
effort and appreciate knowing of '- r_ m.,on Council's support.
Best regards

Dear Mr. Marks:
September 11, 1975
Thank you for sending a copy of your City Resolution in-
dicating the City of Oshkosh's support of efforts to res-
tore rail passenger service between Milwaukee and Green
Bay.
As you know, route surveys and facility analyses were con-
ducted in June of this year by State government, AMTRAK,
and railroad officials. A report regarding the feasibility
study of the Fox Valley route is expected from AMTRAK in
the near future.
Community support and involvement is essential to the re-
development of rail passenger service in Wisconsin. To
that end, your City's resolution is especially timely.
Local government funds for passenger depot purchase and/or
renovation and maintenance, as well as to help defray
parking, promotional and other costs can be an important
element in securing needed service.
I appreciate the City of Oshkosh's expression of community
support and involvement. Your efforts can be helpful in re-
establishing passenger train service to the Fox Valley
area. This project provides an excellent opportunity for
State and local government to work together harmoniously
to the benefit of our citizens.
Sincerely,
.

Thank you for sending me a copy of Resolution 13,
regarding rail passenger service. I am very much in
favor of promoting this Nation's transportation systems.
Rail service from Green Bay to Milwaukee through Oshkosh
would help the economy of Oshkosh as well as the whole
Fox River Valley.
I will do whatever is possible from my position as
State Senator to encourage the National Railroad Passenger
Corporation to provide such service.
