Roll call was taken and a quorum declared present. A motion was made by Dahl to approve the meeting minutes of December 13, 2000 as mailed. Seconded by Schorse. Unanimous. I:108 W. NEW YORK AVENUE Appleton Neon Sign, applicant, for Oshkosh Area School District, owner, requests a variance to have a bulletin board sign that will be 32 sq. ft. in size; whereas Section 30-37(F)(1)(c) of the Zoning Ordinance allows one bulletin board sign not to exceed 24 sq. ft. in size. Roger Ackerman, Appleton Neon Sign, 2927 Roemer Road, Appleton, stated the idea for a larger reader board was considered because of the limited parking near the school, resulting in a quicker drop off and pick up of the children. He stated the larger board would be able to provide parents, children, and City residents an easier sign to read when there is limited time involved. Mr. Kluessendorf asked if Mr. Ackerman had encountered any objections when contacting the adjacent residents regarding the variance. Mr. Ackerman stated he had not contacted the residents, only obtained the names as required on the application. Mr. Bluemke stated he had received no objections, however he had heard from one neighbor regarding the preference for the color of the sign face to be white and not yellow. Mr. Ackerman stated the intention was to install a sign with a white face. Motion by Schorse for approval of the variance to install an internally illuminated double-sided bulletin board sign that will be 4’ high and 8’ wide. Seconded by Dahl. Motion carried 5-0. Finding of the Fact: Mr. Schorse stated the size of the sign does not appear to be excessive in relationship to the size of the property, and it would not appear to have an adverse impact on the neighborhood. Mr. Husman added that a larger variance had been granted for South Park Middle School in a similar situation. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:35 p.m. Respectfully submitted, JOHN C. BLUEMKE Principal Planner JCB/vlr
