RE: RETIRII4ENT PAY FOR 62.13 PE[TSIONS
The City of Oshkosh has provided to policemen and firefighters who were
subject to pension benefits under Section 62.13 of the Wisconsin Statutes
the follaaing benefits in determining their compensation under said
pension plan:
POLICE
FIREFIGHTERS
Base Pay Base Pay
Longevity Longevity
Educational Benefit Pension Benefit
Pension Benefit Prorated Holiday Pay *
Prorated Holiday Pay *
The pension is couted by taking 500 of the above totaled items.
*Holiday pay is included only if individual takes holiday time as a cash
payment.
I will be drafting a resolution providing that the City of Oshkosh will
guarantee to its policemen and firefighters who retire and are subject to
Section 62.13 pension benefits the above mentioned benefits. The City,
several years ago, negotiated with the Chapter 41 police officers a payment
of their portion of the police pension which amunts to anproximately 6% of
their total nay. At the same time, through these same negotiations, the
City negotiated with the 62.13 people payment of their benefits, which
amounts to 4% of their wages. The City negotiated this and paid this in lieu
of additional comensation of the base pay. It is, therefore, my feeling
that in good faith, the 4o pension benefit paid by the City should be
included as compezsation upon which the pension is based.
