TAPCO not only bid almost exclusively frorn one supplier, but maintains an extensive stock of spare parts only an hours drive from Oshkash. 3) TUCKER aas a very them bein tht he another that he is sale. poor reputation f'or good busine9s practices; one of bids out the cheGpest products on the msr ket, and not olways responsive to custorner proGlems after the .) Concerniqg item only: over the years, HCA, IBM, FORU, PHILCO, GidERAL SIGNAL, FISHER-YORTER have all entered the traffic industry field and either went bankrupt or got out before the dia. Just two years ago, SITIGER quit the field, and today MARBLE-LITE is all but bell9-up. HONYYWELL, TUCKERs gupplier of digital controllers, was in the traff ic industry field a few years ago, quit, and re-entered selling digital controllers only in 1975. EAG,E, TAPCOs supplier, has been in the business for 5i yers, and only last year built the world9 largest plant to manufacture products for the trafic industry. It doesn't look like they are about to drop out like the rest. Can we tale the clance, for a few dollars, that HOivYwr;LL wontt all of a sudden oecide to drop out again and. leave us setting with expensive equipment ior which we canit obtain spare parts? Also, to the best of my knowledge, HOiv,Y,ELL has only ope digital controller in operation in our state, certainly not sufficient to test its r•eliability. Also, TUCKER's cDntroller aoes not meet specs in many ways, although not critical to the operation ot' an intersection, out f'or ease of maiatenance. 5) Concerning item 4 only: VERTAs bid for 3-dial controllers is slightly lower than TAPCOts. Since we have almost exclusively EAGLE controllers in use now, we have a good stock of spare parts. If we now switch to CROUS.-HINDS, we will have to spend a considerable amount of money to stock up on spare relays, dials, flashers, contacts, etc., to maintain the new-style controller. Also, CROUSE-IiINDS has not one facility in Dur state w here we can obtain spare parts, and has only one technical representative ia Watertown to perforrn truble-shooting for our entire state. CHOUSE-IiIIDS cntrollers cio not meet our specs in a few ways, but not critical to the operation o£ an intersectin. 6) TrCO has a reputation in the industry for doin good 'ousiness, has several full-time technical trouble-shooters n call 24 hours a day, and has installed 10 dioitally operated intersection in our state.
