HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter (connect to public sewer) - 06/17/1980 y June 17, 1980 Jack L. Willias 2362 Vinland Oshicosh, WI 54901 Dear Mr. Wilia:u: In 1974, your property at 2362 Vinland Street was annexed to the City of Oahkosh. A check af city records show that this property has not been cannected to the public sewer. State of Wisconsin and Fluunicipal Law requires habitable buildings tv connect to public ewer when it is available. At the present ti,e, laws da not require connecting to public water supply when an adaqute pressurized potable well aupply is serving thc building. The City is requiring aIl properties that came inta the City in the 1974 Iland Annexation and with Qubiic eewer available ta conneet to the public sewer before September 1, 1980. Your propertq at 23b2 Vinlnd is included in this requirement. I recomuend that you also install a water service pipe at thi$ time. The water ' service pipe would not be required to b ueed. If at a future time you wanted to connact to public water. another trench will not have to be dug. The trenching is s costiy pert of the installtion. Sewer service and water service may be instelled in the same trench if conditions are right. If you choase not to connect to public cm ter supply, a water meter is required on well aupply. A pollution charge would be made for use of the public owned treatmnt works. Faucets furnishing aater for use outaide of the building may be taken off ahead of the well supplq meters ancl then pollution charges uuldat be chargd for water used for lawns, ardens and so on. r Jack L. Williams June 17, 1980 Page 2 I also recommend that you have your plumber inspect your prsent plusabing system. Inspection wruld deterniue if yo►►r present plumbing systea is adequstely inatalled to protect occupants from hsalth haaarda. F'ublic srer mains contain rasny sewer gasas that are normally not in a sptie aystem. These gases can be very toxic and explosive. Any part of your existing plumbing systes thet ian't in cod ' campliance and by reason af non-compliance tends to ereste health hazard would hava to be repaired, renovated, replaced or removed before connecting to the i public ewer. If you have any questions, call me at City tiall, 424-0383. Ay normal office hours are from 8:Q0 to 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 2:0 p.a.
