RE: Bid Award-Industrial Forklift for Street Division
BACKGROUND
The Common Council allocated $13,000 in the 2015 CIP Major Equipment Budget for a new
forklift for the Street Division. This unit is used to move and stack equipment and items both
inside and outside of the Field Operations Facility complex.
ANALYSIS
Working in conjunction with Street Division staff, Purchasing prepared specifications for this
unit. In the specification review and design process the Street Division determined the original
budget allocation for this forklift would not provide for a large enough lifting capacity (8,000-
9,000 lb.) to meet the Street Division's operational needs. As such it was determined the
specifications should be designed for an industrial forklift. Bids were sent to known vendors.
Bids were due on August 11, 2015. The bid tab is attached. While two bids were received for
this unit only one bid (the Yale forklifts from Fairchild Equipment) met the minimum
specifications. Staff review concluded the 9,000 lb Yale GP9OVX would best meet the
operational needs for this forklift. This unit will come with a base warranty of 12 months/2,000
hours and a power train warranty of 36 months/6,000 hours.
FISCAL IMPACT
The total fiscal impact of the unit with trade is $47,481.80. This item was budgeted in the 2015
CIP Major Equipment Budget at $13,000. The remaining balance ($34,481.80) will be funded
from surplus funds from prior Street Division 2015 CIP equipment purchases including the
Equipment Trailer, the Floor Scrubber and the Leaf Vac/Dual Steer Tandem Plow.
RECOMMENDATION
Purchasing recommends the Common Council award this bid to Fairchild Equipment for
$47,481.80.
Respectfully Submitted, Approved:
