WiIEZtEAS, The C,rand Opera House is listed on the National E&�gister of
Historic Places and occupies a significant niche in Oshkosh cultural and
arcn_tec��a1 histozy; and
WfIE,RE:]1S, past private efforts to raise funds for restoration of The
Grand Opera House have been tmsuccessful; and
WI7EREAS, The Grand Opera House is in poor condition; and in fact; is in
need of er.�ergency repairs; and
WHEREAS, further deterioration due to weather and age will be inevitable
tmless proper repairs are timdertaken; and
Wi�Ri'.AS, a renovated Grand �era House would m3ke a significant contribu-
tion to the community goal of a revitalized central business district, as well
as set an exarrQle for the preservation and re-use of other historic buildinqs in
the area;
NU^7, T,�EFti�;EURE, BB IT RESOLVED by the Ca;uron Council of the City of
Oshkosh that the city administration is authorized and directed to investigate
the economic and architectural feasibility of ti�e renovation and/or restaration
of The Grancl Opera House. The investigation shall i.nclude a reco?cecendation on
z�ossible City purchase of the building, avail.ability of State and Pederal grant
£unds for purchase and reatoration, and a discussion of all possibilities for
re-use of The Grand Opera House under private or public aan�rshir_
BE IT FUKt'f�R R�SOLVED that a Gr.and Oper.a House Ta;k Force be created
which includes �crbers of the Oshkosh Historic Preservation Committee and other5
to be appointecl. Tne Task Force shall work with the administration during the
investigation and shall, be eimlxlNered to solicit and receive gifts from beguests,
private fotmd�tions, corporations, service clubs, comnunity oryanizations and
individuals.
BE IT F'(JRi'IiER RGSpLVED that during this period of inveatigation, all
citizens of the City of Oshkoah � encouraged to unite behind the goal of
restoration of The Grand U�era House, and to dem�nstrate their support through
pledges of siqnificant tira�, ef£ort, and m�ney to enable acc�omplislurent of this
