HomeMy WebLinkAbout31968 / 82-04July 1, 1982 i14 RESOLUTION PURPOSE: POLICY ON UNDERAGE DRINKING INITIATED BY: COUNCILMAN HULSEBOSCH AND COUNCILMAN KUTCHERA Recognizing that drinking and alcoholism by persons below the age of 18 is a problem in Oshkosh, as well as state-wide; and Recognizing that various segments of our residents have requasted Council action to better control underage drinking in Oshkosh; and Bzcognizing that the �snkosh Ciiief of Police has indicated a need for further direction from the Oshkosh City Council; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Oshkosh City Council directs the Oshkosh Police Department and the city administration to more aggres- sively�enforce the city ordinances and state statutes pertaining to underage drinking; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the presence of underage persons in taverns or bars may be a violation of the State of Wisconsin liquor statutes and City of Oshkosh ordinances; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that underage persons found in taverns or bars in violation of State of Wisconsin liquor statutzs and City of Oshkosh liquor ordinances be issued a citation pursuant to Chapter 48 of the Wisconsin Statutes; � �'- BE IT FURTfiER RESOLVED that suppliers of alcoholic beverages to under- age persons be more aggressively charged with violations of municipal ordi- nances and state statutes; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oshkosh City Council calls on not only the Oshkosh Police Department and the city administration, biit also on parents, scnool off_icials, the news viedia, and all citizens of Oshkosh to exert their maximum influe.nce in reducing underage drinking and alcoholism in the City of Oshkosh.
