Oshkosh, WI 54902 (920) 232-5300 (920) 232-5307 FAX OSHKOSH COMMITTEE ON AGING (COA) MINUTES March 3, 2015 PRESENT: Julie Hert, Peggy Bellin, Kathryn Glander, Lurton Blassingame, Xandy Kloeckl, EXCUSED: Randy Philipp, Deb Pahl, Judy Richey ABSENT: Claude Benedict, Deanie Minniear STAFF: Mark Ziemer, Senior Services Manager; Kathy Snell, Lead Office Coordinator Peggy called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. NEW BUSINESS  Commissions & Committee Reports Lurton – Lurton stated he attended the Planning Commission. They now have o him added to their mailing list for the agendas. He stated there was discussion around the Red Cross discontinuing their medical equipment loan closet. It was brought up that perhaps this would be something the Seniors Center would take on. Mark stated we would have to discuss this idea with City Hall as there would be questions regarding liability of loaning out medical equipment. He indicated when we had a Senior Connections staff person we were discussing the “how-to’s” with the Winchester Lions Club. Lurton also stated the library will be adding more large print books. Xandy – stated she has been looking at the agendas for the Traffic Review o board and Bike and Pedestrian group. She will continue to follow their agendas to determine when it would be appropriate to attend. Julie – stated she checked out the websites for ReTh!nk and the Board of o Health. She did not see much pertaining to seniors, however, will continue to follow their agenda items. Kathryn – stated she is following the Park agenda and had stated she would o assist with following up on Board of Health and ReTh!nk. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Lurton moved to approve the minutes as written. Kathryn stated she would like it reflected that she had in the last meeting indicated her assistance with ReTh!nk and Board of Health. Kathy will make the changes. Kathryn seconded the approved with the stated changes. All were in favor of approving the meeting minutes as changed. OLD BUSINESS  Awards Update – currently have one applicant for Life Service Award. Julie asked if it was appropriate for the committee members to put in nominations. It was determined that this would be appropriate. A subcommittee was appointed to review the applications. The subcommittee will consist of Lurton, Peggy and Mark. The award will be presented at one of the upcoming May City Council meetings.  Bylaws – Xandy questioned if we were any further with the approval of the changes to the Bylaws. Lurton stated that the response we have received is to move forward in accordance with our changes as they are appropriate. No official approval has happened. OSC MANAGER REPORT  Staffing – Carrie Ottum has resigned her position. We have restructured this position to include supervisory duties. Senior Connections position is still vacant. One applicant was interviewed. Waiting to hear outcome.  State of the City – Mark your calendars for Monday, March 23. FOSC will be recognized as a significant community group at the event.  Newsletter vs. program guide – looking at an additional publication that is simply “news of OSC”. Currently our newsletter is a program guide not a newsletter.  Senior Connects – second semester is going strong and tons of great feedback.  Murder Mystery Dinner – SOLD OUT  Reaccreditation – this is our year for reaccreditation. We will have the review sometime mid-year. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS/CONCERNS:  It was stated that we are still open one position on the committee. Mark will follow up with Jan at the City Manager’s office.  Lurton stated we need new binder covers. Kathy will have these at the next meeting.  For the next meeting we will discuss the terms limits and update our member sheet.  Mark will contact Deb Pahl to see if conference calls would be an option for her considering the difficulty of attending meeting for her.
