B. Sprinkler System Design i) The sprinkler syste m layout for those areas within the 106 High Street E3uilding shall be based on providing a density oi .10 gpm/sq. ft. ovcr the hydraulically most remote 2,300 sq. ft, with a 250 gpm hose stream allowance. 2) The sprinkler system for those areas within the existing Grand Opera Nouse and the storage shed behind the 106 Nigh Street Building shall be based on previding a density of .l5 gpm/sq. ft. over the hydraulically 2,500 sq. ft. with a 250 gprn hose stream allowance. 3) All systems shall have a maximum head spacing of not more than 130 sq. ft./sprinkler head. 4) (not used) S) Fire Protection Contractor shall be responsible for ceiling removal and replacement necessary to accommodate the installation of new sprinkler mairu anE branch mains witt�in the existing building. The naming oi manufacturers in the specifications shall not be construed as eliminating the materials, products or services of other manufacturers and suppliers having approved equivalent items. The substit�tions of materials er products other than those named in the specifications are subject to prior approval of the A/E granted in writing. "Approved" shall reter to approval by local Fire hiarsfi�ll. Sprinklers i) Sprinkiers for the proposed areas shall be the listed automatic upright, pendent sidew�ll, and flush type and shall be distributed through the building, approximate number ot sprinklers and types per NFPA 13. - 17c - SI33/79003 REVZSED 10/24/83 RESOLUTION # 14 I3500/3 2) Install high te m perature heads of proper degree rating whenever necessary to meet requirements of NFPA No. 13, Section 3-15.6 and as indicated. 3) Install listed lead coated or corro-proof heads in all areas exposed to the weather or to corrosive conditions. C. Flow Switch: U.L. listed ticDonnell No. F574-4F waterflow indicator or equal. tJnit shall be vane type, with retard capabilities. Hose Threads: Hose threads tor hydrants and fire department siamese connection shall match those of the City oi Oshkosh Fire Deparxment. E. Supply Piping - Sprinkler, ]) Pipe shall be new, designed for 175 psig working pressure, conforming to ASTti1 specifications, and have the manufacturer's name or brand along with the applicable ASTM standard marked on each tength ot pipe. 2) Pipe sha1l be steel, Schedule 40, black and in accordance with specifications ASTA4 A-135, ASTM A-120-73 and ASTM A-53-73. 3) Pipe shalt be steel, Schedute (0, black and in accocdance with specification AST�ti1 A-135. 4) Tubing shalt be copper, Type K, L, or M, suifable fo withsiand water wor4:ing pressure not less than l75 psi, and in accordance with specification ASTM A-75 or ASTA1 B-S3. 5) Schedule 40 black steel pipe shall be joined by screwed joints in accord,�nce with specification ANS! B 2.1, by welded join.s 'tn accordance with spceifications ANSI t3 3L10, ANSI [� 31.10a and ANSf B 3t.106, or by mechanieal grooved coupiings. Grcwves may be rolled oc evt and they shal[ be dimensionatty compatible with the coupling. 6) Schedute !0 black steel ASTA-1 A-135 sprinkler pipe shall 6e joined by welded joinu in accordance with specifications ANSi E� 3L10, AN51 8 31.I.Oa and AtiSI f331.I.Ob, and by UL and F�1 approved mechanicai couplings. Couplings may be of thc rolled �roove type or the inechanical locking type (push-on). Gre�ves for the roll�d �roove type shall bc rolled only (cut grooving will not be allowed) and they sh�lt be dimension�lly compatib7e with the coupling. Pipe end preparation for the mechanical locking type couplings will be in accordance with the manutacturer's recommendations. 7) AI1 6;ack steel pipe for use with Fush-on fittings (.Schedule 40 or !0) shali conform to ASThi A-135 zeterances. S) All b!ack steel pipe must be preoxidized with a suitable protective coating. Sprinkler piping thai is exposed to the weather, y used in corrosive atmosphere shall be galvanized. 9) All ASTM A-(35 sprinkler pipe must be tested with a non-destructive electric test for continuous and uninterrupted inspcctio� of ttx welded seam. - 17d - 1550G/4 RESOLUTION # 14' 8133/79003 REVISED 10/24/83 10) All ASTM A-53 and ASTM A-120 sprinkler pipe must be hydrostatic tested at the mill per the ASTM standard. 11) Screwed fittings shail be cast iron, 175 lb. class, black, and in accordance with AN51 B 16.4 or malleable iron, 150 Ib. ciass, black, and in acco�dance with ANSI Bt6.3. 12) Flanged fittings shatl be cast iron, short body, Class 125, black, and in accordance with ANSI B 16.1. Gaskets shall be full face of 1/S" minimum thickness red sheet rubber. Flange bolts shall be hexagon head machine bolts with heavy semi-finished hexagon head nuts, having dimensions in accordance with ANSI B 18.2. 13) �'eld fittings shall be steel,standard weights, biack, and in accordance with ANSI B 16.9, ANSI B 16.25, ANSI B 16.5, or ANSI B 16.11. 14) Grooved couplings and mechanical fittings shall be malleabie iron, 500 psi working pressure, in accordance with ASTM A-47. Couplings gasket material shall be butyl rubber. Grooved couplings and mechanical fittings shall be tested and listed by UL and/or FM. F. Hangers 1) All hanger components shall be of the listed and Approved type. 2) Below concrete construction, inserts, expansion cases or phillips-type shelis shail be installed to support the 1" through 5" size sprinkler piping. 3) Below concrete construction, inserts shall be instalied for al! 6" pipe or, in lieu of the inserts, expansion shields, spaced no more than 10' apart may be installed in accordance with NFPA No. 13, Section 3-14.2. 4) All piping in areas of wood frame construction shali be instailed ln accordance with recommendations of NFPA 13. G. Valves and Devices I) Ail sprinkler controi valves, devices, etc., shall be ot the type approved and listed. Shut-off and check valves shall be indicating type, U.C.. �istrd or Fh1 approved. 2) Tamper Switch: Tamper switch shall be U.L. listed or F'M approved capable of transmitting a signal with only 2 turns of the valve operator on standard OS&Y valve. Wiring from tamper switch to main fire alarm panel under Division :6, E-Icctrical. 3) Signs: Provide standard metal signs in acc.ordancC wi.h NFPA No. l3, paragraptis 3-13.3, A-3-13.3, A-3-16.1 anA 7-1.2. 4) First Aid with 1�5" hose rack Model 1054. Hose Cabinet: Provide surface mounted cabinet assemby, 100 ft. hose, equal to Potter Roemer - 17e - 8133/74003 REVISED 10/24/83 4. SHOP DRAWINGS RESOLUTION # 14 13500/S A. Submit shop drawings per Division !, Section IS000 and the Sollowing additional requirements. � 1) Submit seven {7) biuc line prints per NFPA 13 of complete working plans, shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, and manufacturer's data on devices, pumps and etc., indicating by modei and number to be used, tv the A/E for review and approval. C ontractor shall obtain the necessary insuring agenty and City of Oshkosh Fire Department approvais prior to submitting shop drawings. 2) No work shall commence �ntil all approvals have been obtained. Contractor to allow sufticient time tor the approvals. 3) Prepare shop drawings at minimum scate of i/8" = 1'-0" for plans and !/4" = 1'-0" for detaits. Show all piping, sprinklers, hangers, roof construction and occupancy of each area,including ceiling and roof heights. 4) Inst3llation shall be based on all of the latest architectural, structural, heating and ventilating, plumbing (and) electrical drawings. 5) Contractor shatl be responsible for making a complete site investigation of the existing building to determine the size/location of all utilities and buitding components that are relevant to the installation of the new sprinkler system. 6) Contractor shall submit shop drawings 2o A/E which havc been siamped "approved" by the City of Oshkosh Fire Department. S. EXECUTION ' A. GENERAL 1) The fire protection contractor shall be responsibfe for obtaining flow t�st data from the city. 2) Provide ati required offsets in fire protection piping thai are necessary to accommodate new and existing mechanical, structural and electrical systems. Review existing building conditions and make a(1 necessary adjustrnents to piping layout as required, 3) All sprinkler, drain and test piUina, etc. , iRStalled throuah extcrior walls shall be galvanized. All piping must be substantially supported from buildinf;structure and only approved type han�;crs shall be uscd. Coordinate new ceiling heights and future ceiling heights with architect. 7) Install First Aid Hose Cabinet as recommended by N.F.P.A. and as shown on drawings. 8) Instali sprinkler system in all areas of the building except the tollowing room numbers: B.Q8, C.O1� C.02� C.03� C.04� C.06� C.07� C.08� C.10� C.11� D.01� D.02, D.03, D.04, D.OS, D.06, D.07, D.08, D.09, F.O1, F.04, F.OS, F.07, F.08, G.O1, H.01, I.O1 and I.02. 4) Sprir�kler heads shall not be install�d in smoke outlets under the stage roof. B. Test all pipe for a period fo two hours, at a hydrostatic pressure of 200 lbs. and ali Fiping, valves, heads, etc., shall be watertight. Notify Architect's Representative and Owner in advar,ce regarding time and date of all tests. C. Flow switch, ta m per switches shall be wired into m ain fire alarm panel by [lectrical Contractor. All power wiring and control wiring for switches, alarm devices, bell, etc., and sequencing of system by E-lectrical Contractor. D. Install fire department connection properly connected to piping with necessary check vatve and ball drip drain connection. E. Provide drain valves and extend to floor drains or grade. 1) Provide all auxiliary drains where necessary. 2) Plugs used for auxiliary drains shali be brass. 3) Pipe alt drains and auxiliary drains discharging to outside atmosphere to location where water drained will not damage equipment, vehides, plantfd areas, etc., or injure personncl. 4) All d�ain piping downstream of drain valve shall be galvanized. F. Install ptain finished ceiling and wa11 ptates wherever exposed piping passes throu�h ceilings and walls. G. Set sle�ves in place for all pipes passin�; thro�� h new floors and wal;s. Sleeves thro��h floors shall be watertight. Scal ail openings be?ween piping passin� throu�;li walls, floors adn s!eeves by caulking with fire resistant insulation. H. No field welding of piping shall be permitted. Join al! inside piping by means of screwed, flanged or tlexible gasl;eted joints or other acceptable fittings. Headcrs, risers, feed and cross mains and branch lines may be shop wclded using accept�ble welding fittings with screwed branch outiets. Wrlding and br�zing shall conform to American National Standard instiYute for Power Piping, ANSI B 31.1.0 - - 17g - 8133/79005 REVISED 10/24/83 RESOLUTION # 14 I3300/7 1967, with Addenda ANSI B 31.1 Oa-1971 and ANSI B 31.1 Oa - 1971 and ANSI B 31.1 Ob - 1971. Welding and torch cutting shall not be permitted as a mcans of installing or repairing systems. Provide a blind ti :ngc at cach end ot wcldcd header. Certify weldcrs or brazers as being quali[ied tor wefding and/or brazing in accordance with the requirements of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vesse! Code, Section IX, Qualification Standard for Wetding and E�razing Procedu�es, Weldcrs, Brazers and Welding and Brazing Operators 1968 edition. . J. Inspector's Test 1) Provide inspector's test connections, as specified in NFPA No. 13, Section 3.9 and Paragraph A-3-9.1.i at required points for testing each waterilow alarm device. Special discharge nozzle shall have sarne orifice as m ajori:y of sprinkler heads installed. Consult with Architect for exact location of inspector's tests and mettiod for discharge of water during inspector's test procedures. 2) Provide all necessary vertical/horizontai drain piping through new and existing building to facilitate proper testing of ail waterflow alarm devices for each sprinkler zone. K. The Contractor shail be responsible during the installation and testing periods of the sprinkler system for any damage to the work of others, to the building, its contents, etc., caused by leaks in any equipment, by unplug�ed or disconnected pipes, fittings, ete., or by overfiow, and shail pay for the necessary reptacements or repairs to work of others, building contents, equipment, or landscaping damaged by such leakage. L. Provide guards on sprinkler heacs where heaCs are within 7'-0" of finished floor or wherever.sprinklers may be subject to mechanical damage. h1.
