We suggest getting a cost of removal and replacement from the General Contractor on a per column basis. In addition, I looked at the start of the excavation for the elevator pit which was filled with water and had a thin layer of ice on the surface. The soil appeared to be very soft, but we preEer to see what it looks like after they have excavated to footing level. You should examine it at that time. The well is approximately 2'-0" round and lined with stones. Depth of the well has not been determined. Before the existing basement floor was placed, the well had been filled with cinders and bricks. Those materials have now been removed to a level about 2'-0" below the bottom of the new elevator pit floor slab. Clarence Lade, Marino Construction, has been instructed to proceed with the pit construction, to fill the well to its current excavated level with concrete and to place the sump basin in its originally designed location - over the well. It appears that about 3 cubic feet of extra concrete is required. Sincerely, YARBRO-KEMPINGER ARCHITECTS, INC. by Robert L.
