A ugust 16, 1984 Oshkosh City Council Dear Council Members: I apologize £or not being able to attend this meeting of the Oshkosh City Council. My reason for writing this letter is to address the 5% Room Tax Issue. We would like to go on record as having the Holiday Inn of Oshkosh and Sam S. Schahet & Co., owners, as being 100 £or this izcrease. Our reasons are as follows: 1. We feel the benefits would be passed on to all the hotels, not just specific properties. 2. We are not "tax happy", but we want our Convention Bureau to be First Class and have every advantage necessary to bring business into our hotels and the community. 3. We are in the process of spending a tremendous amount o£ money to renovate our £acility. I feel that it is important to have a Convention Bureau that can do a first class job of promoting , business leads to pass onto these propertis. F9e want you to know that one o£ the primary con- siderations in the decision to remodel our facility was the £act that we have had a strong convention bureau in the past. We would expect this bureau to remain strong through growths such as is possible bv this tax increase. 4, Finally, not all facilities are afforded the luxury of having a large sales sta££ to seek out all of these business leads. We pay our taxes to have the Convention Bureau do this, along with our sales staffs, and why ould we not have the freedom to benefit £rom these additional sales leads? In closing, I wish to reiterate our position of being £or the 5% increase in Room Tax. Your consideration is appreciated.
