SECTION 27-38.3(5) PERTAINING TO STATE-[�1ANDATED REQUIREMENTS FOR UNIFORM
SIGNS AND POSTINGS FOR HANDICAPPc�D PAR�CING SPACES
The Common Council of the City of Oshkosh do ordain as follows:
Section 1. That Section 27-38.3(5) is hereby repealed and
recreated to read as folloWS:
(5) The official traffic sign shall conform to the
followinq requirements:
(a) Sign Description. The sign shall consist of a white
rectangle with a longer dimension vertical, of a size not
less than 12 inches by 18 inches and shall have a green
message and a qreen arrow if required, and a blue and white
international symbol for the barrier-free environnents. It
may be reflective or non-reflective. The sign shall include
the wurds "reserved parking" and the words "vehicles with
VET or DIS plates or state disabled card" or other words
with similar meaning. A right arrow, left arrow or the words
"This Space" or similar wordin� shall be included near the
bottom of the sign.
(b) Sign Placement. Each sign shall be erected on an adequate
support. On streets, alleys and roads, the vertical
distance from roadway surface, or top of the curb, if any,
to the bottom of the sign shall be not less than seven feet
except where overhead obstructions necessitate a lower
height. In all off-road parking lots, the vertical distance
from the parking lot surface, or top of the curb, if any, to
the bottom of the sign shall be not less than four feet. A
single sign with the message "This Space" or similar wording
shall be used to designate a single reserved space. At
least two signs are required for multiple reserved spaces.
When only two signs are used, they shall be located at the
outermost limits of the spaces reserved and shall designate
by arrow the location of the reserved spaces. A sign shall

be located at tne end of an angled or right angled space and
shall be centereci in the space facing the motorist entering
the space except when the reserved space is parallel to the
edge of a roadway when the sign shall be set near the
forward end of the space and angled to face the line of
traffic.
(c) Signs already in place prior to the effective date of this
ordinance may remain in place and shall have the same effect
as the signs described herein until May 1, 1988, provided
they include the international symbol for barrier-free
environments. The requirements of paragraph (U) herein
shall not apply to these existina signs.
Section 2. Thi� ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage and date of publication.
