SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD
EDUCATION & OUTREACH AND GOVERNMENT ACTION SUBCOMMITTEES
MONDAY, MAY 4, 2015
PRESENT: Jan Scalpone, Samara Hamze, Kim Biedermann, Michelle Bogden Muetzel,
Margy Davey, and William Fath
EXCUSED: Nikki Stoll, Tom Pech and Bob Breest

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm and a quorum was declared present.
RAIN BARREL WORKSHOP REPORT
Ms. Williams provided those present with a copy of the Build Your Own Rain Barrel Workshop Report.
Over 30 participants attended the workshop, making it the largest workshop ever administered by the
Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance.
Members discussed hosting another workshop and decided to revisit the topic in January, 2016, as spring
workshops typically have better attendance.
PROGRESS OF 2015 ACTION PLAN ITEMS
A. WEBSITE UPDATES
Members compiled suggested website changes after reviewing various sections of the Sustainable
Oshkosh Website.
Ms. Hamze agreed to meet with IT staff to review website changes and to provide an update on the effort
at the next subcommittee meeting.
B. BROCURE DEVELOPMENT
Ms. Scalpone indicated she was working on the brochure regarding native planting and noted the amount
of information available on the topic. She suggested breaking the content up into multiple brochures.
Members agreed to send draft copies of their brochures to Ms. Williams once they were ready to be
reviewed. A status update was suggested to be included on the next subcommittee meeting agenda.
C. SATURDAY FARMERS MARKET OUTREACH
Ms. Williams reminded subcommittee members that volunteered to host the Sustainability Advisory
Board’s Farmers Market booth.
D. RESEARCH URBAN BEE KEEPING ORDINANCE
Members discussed exploring the development of a resolution to include a model ordinance for Urban
Bee Keeping after multiple requests during the public comment period at various Sustainability Advisory
Board meetings.
Mr. Fath and Ms. Hamze agreed to research the public outreach process used by other communities that
have successfully enacted urban bee keeping ordinances.
SCHEDULE NEXT MEETING
The next subcommittee meeting was scheduled for Monday, July 6th at 6:00 p.m. in Room 203 at City
Hall.
ADJOURN
Motion by Ms. Biedermann and second by Ms. Hamze to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting
adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
