A goal of the Acanthus Awards is to further historic preservation by identifying,evaluating and protecting the City's cultural resources by calling attention to the cultural, economic, social or historic heritage of our City. Past recipients have ranged from organizations to property owners as well as individuals involved in activities that have enhanced our historic and cultural resources. The City of Oshkosh Landmarks Commission has chosen four entities to receive the annual City of Oshkosh Acanthus Historic Preservation Award for 2015. 1. William Scott -Exterior Maintenance of the residence at 2223 Doty Street" For appropriate maintenance efforts including rebuilding the pergola, siding replacement and painting of the residence that helps to protect our historic resources. • William Scott will be accepting the Award 2. Grady and Kimberly Bullington "Restoration of the residence at 1039 Algoma Boulevard" For appropriate maintenance, restoration and repair efforts of the residence that enhance Oshkosh history and protect our cultural resources. • Grady and Kimberly Bullington will be accepting the Award 3. Mickey and Lois Noone "Adaptive Reuse of a Historic Railroad Station at 516 West 18`11 Avenue" For the adaptive reuse of a former Soo Line passenger station to a single-family home retaining the original character and quality of the structure and ensuring its retention and continued use for future generations. • The Landmarks Commission will be accepting the Award on the Noone's behalf 4. The Varsity Club/Jeremy West "Front Facade Remodeling at 570 North Main Street" For the historically sensitive restoration efforts of a structure located within the North Main Street National Historic District, reversing previous inappropriate remodeling, recreating elements original to the aesthetic of the historic property, and acting as an example to others within the community. • Jeremy West will be accepting the Award Shirley Brabender Mattox of the Oshkosh Landmarks Commission will say a few words about the awardees and their projects.
