HomeMy WebLinkAbout34950 / 88-158 July 7, 1988 # 158 RESOLUTION (CARRIED LOST LAID OVER WITHORAWN ) , PURPOSE: SUPPORT EKPANSION OF U.S. HWY ISl INITIATED BY: CITY ADMINISTRATION WHEREAS, the expansion of industry in the Fox River Valley is likely to continue to increase in the future; and WHEREAS, U.S. Highway 151 is the major economic highway corridor between the Fox River Valley and Fond du Lac to Madison and Dubuque, lowa and is also the major link between U.S. Highway 41 and Interstates 90 and 94; and WHEREAS, traffic flow, highway safety, route continuity and interreg- ional transportation would be greatly improved if U.S. Highway 151 were expanded from two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes between Columbus and Beaver Dam; and WHEREAS, the stretch of U.S. Highway 151 between Columbus and 8eaver Dam carry an average of 9,100 vehicles per day, therefore, according to Wisconsin Department of Transportation criteria, should be upgraded since it carries over 9,000 vehicles per day; and WHEREAS, U.S. Highway 151 between Columbus and Beaver Dam carries an average of over 1,000 trucks per day; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Oshkosh that the City endorses, encourages and supports efforts that the Transportation Projects Commission recommend that the U.S. Highway 151 from Columbus to Beaver Dam project be enumerated as a "major project" , and that planning and construction begin as soon as possible. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVE� that all residents of the City of Oshkosh are -. encouraged to support this project and that the proper City officials are directed and authorized to take any action necessary to carry out the intent of this resolution.
